BETTER DAYS
By BAMIDELE DAVID (GRS Jss2 Student)
There was once a country that was underdeveloped, lacked electricity and I.C.T. But with time, people began to read a book titled “BETTER DAYS” and a person was pushed after reading it to make that country a better country and a country to be mentioned all over the world. So, with all he thought, all his thought was that he should go for the next presidential election. After three months, he went and make enquiries about the presidential election form. He got one not for fame, money, or position but to make the country a better place. So all the people he knew and told muttered words among themselves that he was going for there for money. But he alone knew what he wanted to do when he gets there.
After a month, the election umpire of the country released the election timetable. Then he knew he had to join a political party. There were many political parties. By luck, he picked the right one. After a week, he submitted a proposal stating that he was going for the presidential election, and he wanted to run for the party to boost the parties’ confidence among all political parties. The political member of his party belittled him. Few days after his submission, was his party’s primary election. He got prepared and hoped in God that his effort to win the election will come through. He won the primary election.
After four months, the presidential election was conducted. The man really hoped in his heart and mind that he would be the winner. It is now four months from the day he submitted his intention his party, that he was declared winner of the presidential election conducted. He was joyful and his happiness knew no boundary.
The following week, he was to resume office. He was nervous. Yet, he said to himself that one week was too long. So, with the wink of an eye the following week came, and he resumed office. The staff of the presidential office also resumed. However, among his Ministers were some Ministers whose eyes and interest was the money they were going to steal from the nation. The President was advised by some other state workers to make a particular man a federal minister. The chosen man supported the president to make the country a better place where computer literacy was placed a top priority, and all resources of the country were tapped to develop the nation. So, that country became a better place and the people had better days under his rule.
Now, I know you must have hoped to know this man. He is the one reading this story. I know you hope for better days. But we can create the better days around us in every position we occupy. Such that service are not driven by fame, money, or applause of the people but that we might touch someone’s life for good and indeed the entire citizens of Nigeria.
So, with this, I tell you my friends and beloved parents that Nigeria doesn’t depend on only the president and its federation. It also depends on you, me and every little person in the nation whether old or young, poor and rich, everyone from different ethnic group. We can all make a great change. Better days are ahead.
